ABOUT ENGLISH CHAMBER OPERA

English Chamber Opera was established in December 2006 by sopranos Rebecca Cooper, Beverley Worboys and Sarah Moule, and businessman Lukas Fluri. Our goal is to offer compelling, thoroughly entertaining, theatrical and musical experiences that will appeal to opera enthusiasts and first-timers alike.

We are fortunate to have as our patrons Donald Maxwell, the world-renowned character baritone and Director of the National Opera Studio, Richard Hetherington, senior coach at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and assistant conductor to Daniel Harding, Richard Hickox and Antonio Pappano, and one of the world’s leading tenors and Director of the Cardiff International Academy of Voice, Dennis O'Neill. We have appointed international keyboard player Mark Williams as our Music Director and are thrilled that he is launching his promising conducting career with us.

We aim to cast exceptional young singers on the threshold of major careers, and to work with the finest directors and designers from all spheres of the theatrical world. The scale of our productions – typically, a cast of around 8 people and an orchestral ensemble of about 10 – responds well to the growing desire of many people to enjoy theatrical experiences in an intimate setting. In addition to public performances in conventional theatres in Britain and Europe, our productions will fit comfortably in unusual venues, from castles to private houses.

English Chamber Opera has made a fantastic start. In March 2007 we launched the company with a hugely successful tour of Ireland that included a performance of Don Giovanni to a capacity audience of 1,500 at The Royal Theatre, Castlebar. In April we made our London début with the same production at the 20th Century Theatre, Notting Hill, and received an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from our audience.
